Natural resources Fisheries: Hilsa is our national fish. The largest and most important as a single species. Hilsa contributes about 12-13 percent to the country's fish production. Hilsa production in Raipur upazila of Laxmipur district is about 13500 MT with a value of about 50 crore rupees. After meeting the local demand, hilsa fish goes to different parts of the country and is also exported abroad.
There are about 7500 fishermen of 03 unions in Raipur upazila of Laxmipur district.
Apart from catching, they are engaged in marketing, transportation, processing and boat building activities, out of which 20,000 families directly and indirectly make a living by catching hilsa fish.
Agricultural resources: Raipur upazila economy of Laxmipur district is mainly dependent on agriculture. The soil, climate and water of Laxmipur are suitable for the production of various crops. 75% of the total households of this upazila are involved in crop production in one way or another. Paddy, soybean, jute, chilli, mustard, potato, almond and sugarcane are the main crops of this upazila. Besides, extensive cultivation of betel nut and coconut can be noticed in Raipur upazila. There are also plenty of fruit trees. Mango, blackberry, jackfruit, banana, papaya, guava, lemon, bell and mango are the main local fruits.
Livestock: According to the 1998 census of rural areas in Raipur upazila of Laxmipur district, gabdi animal husbandry is 36% of the rural household. 222 poultry farms and 102 livestock farms have improved Raipur in terms of livestock.
