Tradition of the upazila
Tradition of the upazila
The Raipur Jin Mosque is about 200 years old. At that time Raipur upazila of Laxmipur district, estuary of Meghna and Kharsrota Dakatia rivers, was a sparsely populated large char area. From time to time some great religious devotees from different countries come here. It is said that the spread of Islam in the greater Noakhali region took place around this area.
At this time Maulana Abdullah was born in an aristocratic Muslim family in Raipur. The time was 1235 BC. Born in 1828 to a very religious family, Abdullah migrated to India for higher religious education after completing his primary education in his area. There Darul Uloom Deoband was admitted to Matrasa. In Deoband, he acquired higher knowledge and religious education from the company of famous and experienced scholars for 18 long years.
On his way back to Bangladesh after studying in India, he stayed in Delhi for some time. At this time he was attracted by the construction style and artistic appearance of the Delhi Shahi Jame Mosque. The dream and desire to build a similar mosque back in Bangladesh bless his heart.
He built the famous mosque, 110 feet long and 60 feet wide and 10 feet above the ground, exactly like the model of the Shahi Jame Mosque in Delhi.
One of the most interesting aspects of the mosque is that there is a secret worship house with 3 rooms 20 feet below the ground floor of the mosque. Maulana Abdullah used to sit there in a secluded environment and meditate on Allah. The VT of the mosque is 15 feet high. You have to enter the mosque by climbing 13 steps.
The walls are 6 feet wide. The minaret in front of the mosque is 25 feet high. It is said that some of the jinn disciples of Maulana Abdullah used to complete the construction of the mosque at night. That is why this historic mosque is widely known as the Mosque of Zvin. Locals still say that the jinns used to bathe in the ponds at the bottom of the mosque, and they used to perform regular prayers and other acts of worship in the mosque. Even in the dead of night, Zikir's voice could be heard far away.
This historic mosque is located 8/900 yards east of Raipur municipal town in Laxmipur district on the south side of Pir Fayez Ullah Road. This mosque is an ancient monument of Lakshmipur district in terms of aesthetic appearance and strange infrastructure and artistic appearance. Thousands of tourists from home and abroad flock to see its construction techniques and architecture. The mosque is a witness to the times of Raipur.
The mosque is also known as 'Maulvi Abdullah Sahib's Mosque' in the area. However, it is known from the inscription near the stairs in front of the mosque that the name of the mosque is ‘Masjid-e-Abdullah’.
